Introduction

Digital Counsel ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your information when you visit digitalcounsel.co.uk or engage our services, and sets out your rights under applicable data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Digital Counsel is part of the Global Digital Solutions group of companies. For the purposes of the UK GDPR, Digital Counsel is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

  • Information you provide to us — such as your name, work email address, company name, website and the contents of any message when you complete our contact form or correspond with us.
  • Information we collect automatically — when you visit our website we may automatically collect technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed and the dates and times of your visits, through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Information from third parties — we may receive information about you from business partners, referrers, analytics providers and publicly available sources.

How we use your information

We use your personal data to: respond to your enquiries and provide the information or services you request; manage and deliver our consultancy engagements; operate, maintain and improve our website; send you marketing communications where you have consented or where we are otherwise permitted to do so; and comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

Our lawful bases for processing under the UK GDPR are: your consent; the performance of a contract with you; our legitimate interests in operating and growing our business (where these are not overridden by your rights and freedoms); and compliance with a legal obligation.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to function correctly and to help us understand how visitors use the site. We may use analytics services to compile aggregated, non-identifying statistics. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect the functionality of the site.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with: service providers and processors who perform functions on our behalf (such as hosting, email and analytics); other companies within the Global Digital Solutions group; our professional advisers; and regulators or authorities where required by law. Where third parties process personal data on our behalf, they do so under contract and only on our instructions.

International transfers

We work with senior specialists based in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. As a result, your personal data may be transferred to, and processed in, countries outside the United Kingdom. Where we do so, we put in place appropriate safeguards — such as the International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or transfers to jurisdictions deemed adequate — so that your data continues to receive an equivalent level of protection.

Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to satisfy any legal, accounting or reporting requirements. When personal data is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • request access to the personal data we hold about you;
  • request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request that we erase your personal data;
  • request that we restrict or object to our processing of your data;
  • request the transfer of your data (data portability);
  • withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on consent.

Complaints

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk. We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please consider contacting us first.

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-party links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

Children's privacy

Our website and services are directed at businesses and are not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
